Directed by Canadian-American Korean Benson Lee, Planet B-Boy is a documentary film about b-boy culture and history, climaxing with the 2005 Battle of the Year where crews from around the world compete to be the best. The film centers particularly on the underground b-boy scene from France, Japan, South Korea and the United States and features footage of dancers in rehearsal, street performances and competitions. Interviews with B-Boys, their friends and families from the various countries provide insight on the unique cultural and social backgrounds the dancers grew up in. Also included in the film are interviews with Thomas Hergenröther, the German B-Boy who founded the Battle of the Year competition and legendary B-Boy Ken Swift of the Rock Steady Crew.
